
Pradeep Pandit -a Photo-journalist of The Hindustan Times posted at jalandhar undergoing treatment at a hospital after being injured in an assault on Thursday.
Jalandhar, September 5, 2013: City police have registered a case against the bus driver, conductor and others unidentified persons under sections 307,323,148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly mercilessly beating Pradeep Pandit -a Photo-journalist of The Hindustan Times posted here on Thursday.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Navjot Singh Mahal has assured the local media persons that the police would take immediate action in the matter. He has also assured that the accused would be strongly dealt in accordance with the Law.
As per the available information, the incident occurred near DAV College here. In this incident, a bus hit and severely hit a Cyclist Baljit Singh, a class IV employee, working in the Department of Irrigation today. On noticing the incident, Pradeep Pandit alongwith the Principal Correspondent Jasdeep Singh Malhotra, intervened. Both of them made a request to the driver of the bus to shift the injured to the nearby hospitalfor medical assistance.
Finally, the injured was taken to the hospital and treatment was started. In the meantime, when the driver of the bus allegedly made an attempt to slip from the site Pradeep Pandit asked him to wait for the police to arrive to investigate the matter. As a result, a dispute arisen and the agitated driver alongwith a few others allegedly assaulted on Pradeep with base bat. Pradeep was allegedly beaten mercilessly. Meanwhile, police arrived on the spot and caught the alleged assailants.
