Jalandhar, December 11, 2012: Ashwani Malhotra, an NDTV Reporter and four other shopkeepers were allegedly attacked when they tried to restrain drunken young folks from eve teasing on Monday near Bhagat Singh Chook.
The unfortunate incident took place when three youths were allegedly teasing a girl near Malhotra's shop.
Seeing this, Malhotra and other shopkeepers tried their level best to persuade the youths to not to do such activities, but on the other hand youths slapped them.
Meanwhile, one of them informed their associates, they reached on the spot in no time.
In fact, the alleged eve teasers were the members of a marriage party at a nearby marriage palace.
Within no time the alleged eve teasers supporters arrived there and attacked on Malhotra and others with sharp edged weapons. As a result, Malhotra and other shopkeepers sustained injuries.
They had to even stage a protest dharna against the police in police apathy in taking action against the assailants.
Finally, the police have to register a case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code against the assailants.
The injured Malhotra alongwith three shopkeepers were rushed to the local Civil Hospital.
Eight assailants had been arrested.
Further police investigation is in progress.
